Gaming in New England

  • In Connecticut, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun combined have almost 14,000 slot machines. Together they generated in excess of $1.4 billion in net win during fiscal 2010, and contributed more than $350 million to the state. Since their inception, the State of Connecticut has received some $5.4 billion in revenue from these two casinos.
  • In Rhode Island, two parimutuel facilities with a total of more than 6,100 video lottery terminals produced nearly $461 million in net terminal income in fiscal 2009, earning a net profit of $285 million for the state. And unlike the experience of many jurisdictions, preliminary figures show that VLT revenues were UP in fiscal 2010!
  • In Maine, 1,000 slot machines at the Bangor racetrack gaming facility generated more than $59 million in net revenue in 2009, providing the state with $27 million in tax revenues.
